Do these actually really work? I heard that they can still get your ip info.

Don't really know what you intend to do with these US proxy IP, but here is the one that I use when testing affiliate offers and want to see how they look like in different countries, or to see how my Adwords ads rank in Google in diffrent countries.

About tracking the real address, I don't really care as I'm not doing anything illegal, but yes, it is always possible to go back to the source, but it make things more difficult, specially if you use several proxies in cascade. But if your goal is to protect your IP address, I think that TOR is a better option.

Does TOR slow your connection down?

That's like the lottery: you never know who will relay your connection, so you can get a slower connection, but during the short time I tested it (I don't really need it every day), I've not noticed a big difference. There's anyway a nice plugin for Firefox which allows you to turn it on and off with just a click: you can still act as a TOR relay for the community but decide to use it or not while browsing.

Note: just to answer to a common question: NO ! You can't use TOR to click on your own Adsense ;-). The ads will not even display, as the TOR network is seen by Google as a proxy.
